Global Hair
Two surfaces, one source of truth, zero learning curve.
Global Hair came to us with a 1990s-era salon software they were determined to replace. The operators were ready. The stylists, who barely tolerated software at all, were the harder audience.
The brief
Global Hair is a salon management system: appointment scheduling, inventory tracking, and stylist commission management. We designed and built two paired surfaces: a salon-owner web app for daily operations and a stylist-facing mobile app for personal schedules and earnings. Both designed for non-technical users.
What we solved
The two audiences have wildly different needs and tolerance for complexity. Salon owners want full operational control, multi-location reporting, and detailed commission rules. Stylists want to glance at their phone between clients and see their day. The product had to make both audiences feel served by the same shared system without watering either down.
How we got there
We separated the audiences into two surfaces: salon owners on web, stylists on mobile. The web app for owners surfaces the day's appointments, no-shows, inventory, and commissions on a single home view. The mobile app for stylists is built for one-thumb operation between clients: today's schedule, current client, and earnings to date. Both surfaces share a single backend so updates flow instantly between them.
What we shipped
Salon owners get a comprehensive web app with multi-location support, automated commission calculation, and inventory alerts. Stylists get a mobile app that just works: today's schedule, quick client lookup, and earnings. Automated SMS appointment reminders cut no-show rates dramatically across pilot salons.
What changed for the client
Ninety-plus salons onboarded in the first six months. No-show rates dropped 40 percent thanks to automated reminders. Owner reporting time dropped from hours to minutes per week, and stylist adoption hit 95 percent within a few weeks of rollout, which is unusually high for this category.
Frequently asked.
Questions that come up most often when companies reach out about projects like this.
Yes. Global Hair, Build Files, and Washouse are all paired-surface products where each audience has wildly different needs from the same shared backend. We design each surface around its audience first, then make sure they reconcile through shared data.
Aggressive simplicity. We watch real users on real workflows before designing, we minimize the number of decisions on every screen, and we lean heavily on defaults and undo rather than configuration. Stylists at Global Hair onboarded quickly per person.
We pick the backend based on the product's real-time, auth, and data needs. We've shipped fast-moving SaaS backends on Global Hair, Match Plan, AboutWork, Hatless, and Big Gym among others.
